These are my most recent maxes to date in the big three:

Squat- 295 lbs
Bench- 205 lbs
Deadlift- 330 lbs

These were all at approx 155-157 lbs.

This journal will follow me through the next 18 weeks in which I will be wooping Dabomber's ass! Progress is inevitable. I have the desire and focus to achieve my goals and I will stop at nothing to get them. Latty is gonna kick some ass and move some iron!!

Front Plate raise- 35 lbs 2x12

Sweet workout! I was done in 25 mins, then followed with a quick stretch/cooldown. I did some light SLDL real deep to try and stretch out my hammies a bit. Tomorrow is ME squat day.

Happy with the goodmorning max. I don't know which exercise is tougher between those and the Zerchers. They both kick my ass! Getting better at pull throughs. Side bends, I'm up to my heaviest dumbell for 2 sets of 8. Another good workout and all done in about 37 mins.

Thanks Termy.

Well, Latty went away to New Jersey this weekend with family and slacked off. I was a bit mad at myself, but then was thinking that it is good to show a sense of normalcy sometimes and not get too crazy over a few missed meals and a missed workout. So fuk it. I missed my ME bench day, but it will be ace next week! I went to Atlantic City and stayed up all night Friday gambling with my family. It was ace! I lost about $350 and then, while my family was finishing paying for breakfast, I went up stairs to "cash in my chips". Saw a open blackjack table and said what the hell. I sat down fort about 3 minutes and won back $100. Sweet! All in all it was fun, but didn't sleep much.

Back to business as usual.

10/8 weight- 153 lbs

DE squat day
Box squats(12")- 155 lbs 9x2
SLDL- 245x5, 275x5, 305x5, 335x2(!) (Sup B?)
Pull throughs(light)- 40 lbs 2x15
Standing abs(cable)- 1 set
Side Bends- 1 set

Box squats- very happy with speed!

SLDL- DAMN! I didn't think I had it in me. That's 5 more lbs than my conventional dead max from about 6 weeks ago!

Side bends- need heavier dumbells. I will get them soon.

Overall- Ace workout after a crap weekend of nutrition and rest!

Incline close grips- 125 lbs 3x6
Seated Row (overhand)- 140x8, 150x8
Hammer Curls- 40'sx6, 35'sx6

I didn't have too much energy, but workout went well anyway. Did light sldl at the end again cause I am still a little tight.

nice job latty, that is a huge sldl *note to self, get as strong as latty*

Chris Rodgers
10-11-2001, 10:20 AM
*note to all you hyuugge mofos*

I perform sldl's to the point just shy of my back rounding. For me, the bar touches about the middle of my shin and then reverse the movement. That being said, for some reason I seem to have decent strength pulling the bar, but I'm weak at squats and presses. Go figure. :(

Chris Rodgers
10-11-2001, 01:40 PM

ME squat day
Arched back goodmornings- 245x1, 265x1, 285x1, 305x1
Zercher squats- 135x5, 155x5, 175x5
Pull throughs- 90x12, 100x12
Decline situps- 3 sets

I think I have strength imbalnces or something weird. I did sldl with more than my conventional and now I do goodmornings with more than my squat. weird, good workout nonetheless.

ME bench day
Close-grip benches- 175x1, 195x1
JM press- 65x8, 75x8, 85x8
BB rows- 145 lbs 2x6
Inc. elbows out ext.- 30'sx8, 6

Very good workout! Hit a pr on close grips. The weight started up, then I had to give it everything I had to move it inch by inch and then finally locked it out.

JM press felt awesome. Totally killed my triceps.

That I will be Maki Mak!

DE squat day
Box squats(12")- 160 lbs 9x2
SLDL- 245x3, 275x3, 315x5
Then just a few light sets of pull throughs and standing abs.

I have been going through a very tough time these last 5 days or so with the recent break-up with my girlfriend. It was definitely on my mind and affecting my workout, so I cut it short. I did however hit my goal of 315x5 on sldl, but it's scary to have that much weight in your hands and be thinking of something else while you rep it out. Not a safe situation. Hopefully everything will work out for the best and I can get my mind back on track. :(

DE Bench day
Speed benches- 130 lbs close-3x3, med-3x3, wide-2x3, 175 lbs 1x3
Inc. Close grips- 115x8, 125 lbs 2x6
Seated row(overhand)- 150 lbs 2x8
Reverse curls(ez-curl)- 2 sets of 10

I am going to make the following changes:
For now, I will not add an extra heavy triple at the end because I was not happy with the speed. I will be following the benches with an extension instead of inc. close grips. I will probably up the volume slowly in the next few weeks too.

As for squat day, I will drop sldl's for a while and start to do speed deads. Depending on how I feel, I'm toying with the idea of doing a dead contest on December 1st in the 148 class. Not really sure yet though.

Weight- 150 lbs

That is cool that your thinkin' about going into deadlift competition. You are lifting a lot of weight for them bro. Keep us updated.

ME squat day
Bent over goodmornings(wide)- 185x1, 205x1, 215x1
Zercher squats- 135x5, 155x5, 185x6
Pull throughs- 100x15, 110x12
Standing abs- 1 set
Side Bends- 1 set

Fairly quick workout. Wasn't overly enthused about the goodmornings, but that was the first time with that exact stance.
Zerchers and pull, throughs are going up.

Chris Rodgers
10-20-2001, 04:04 PM

ME bench day
Close-grip benches- 175x1, 200x1, 205xfailed
Lying db extensions*- 20's 5x8
Seated db power cleans- 15's 3x8
Db rows- 100 2x6

Great workout! Hit a new max on close grips.
Db extensions were done with 15 secs between sets, very hard!!
Db power cleans were very hard, but felt awesome.
Db rows- first time with the 100 lber, felt good.

I added a pair of 100's and 110's to my gym yesterday and got to test out the 100 on db rows. In the upcoming months I should be repping with the 110.

I am going to now be performing a lat movement on both bench days and also on my DE squat day on Monday. So I will be doing three lat movements per week.

I will be using db power cleans on 3 of every 4 bench days, the other I will use front plate raises.

Weight- 151 lbs

DE squat day
Box squats(12")- 160 lbs 9x2
Speed deads- 195 lbs 6x1 (15 secs rest between singles)
Wide grip chins- bwx5, +25 lbs 2x5
Pull throughs- 110x12, 120x12
Hanging leg raises- 2 sets
Side bends- 1 set

Good workout. Next week I am going to drop back to 150 on box squats and do 11 doubles instead of 9.

Deads felt very light.

Chins- add weight next week, pull throughs are gettin stronger.

Lying db extensions- 20's 6x8 (15 sec rest)
Seated db power cleans- 15's 4x8
BB rows- 145 lbs 2x6

Great workout. Singles on bench felt basically the same as the triples.

Added one set to lying ext and power cleans.

ME squat day
Rack pulls(7.5")- 365x1, 385x1, 405x1, 425xfailed, 415x1
Zercher squats- 155 lbs 2x8
Pull throughs- 110x12
Standing abs- 1 set
Side Bends- 1 set

The rack pulls took forever and had me pretty wiped at the end. I didn't expect to go that high, so I was happy. The plates were 7.5" off the ground and the sets went like this:

I got 425 half way up and stalled. Next week I will go straight from the 385 to 425.

Everything else I just did quickly cause I was shot. Next week I'll go back up on the Zerchers.

2 Board Press- 185x1, 205x1, 215x1, 225x1, 230xfailed
Lying db extensions- 20's 7x8
JM presses- 85x8, 95x8, 105x6
Seated db power cleans- 15's 4x8
Chest supported rear-delt row- 65x15

Great workout. Felt awesome to press 2 plates. Added one set to db extensions, time to up the weight. JM presses felt real good even though my triceps were trashed when I got to them.

Tried out a rear delt row because I need to strengthen those up. I will add more sets and weight to those next time.

Next week I'll hit 230!

Took some pics since I am now going to be eating heavier and don't know if I'll be fat for Christmas pic time. So I'll prolly post these pics, old pics and new ones around Christmas when I get a scanner. :D

What's a 2 board press?

Chris Rodgers
10-30-2001, 09:25 PM
It's ace!

You take 2- 2"x6" boards and nail them together. Then you have someone hold that on your chest while you bench. The bar comes down, touches the boards instead of your chest and then you press it up. Kind of simulates the bench press with a bench shirt on which pretty much moves the bar through the first 4 inches or so. Hits the triceps hard.

DE bench day
Speed benches- 130 lbs close-3x3, med-3x3, wide-2x3, 175x1
Lying db extensions- 25's 5x8
Seated db cleans- 15's 2x8, 20's 1x6, 1x8
BB rows- 145 lbs 2x6
Hammer curls- 30'sx12

Nice and quick workout. Single went up nice and easy.
Went up 5 lb bells on db ext and felt it!! Last set was tough.
Tried heavier db cleans and that 5 lb jump is a lot. Fought it out on the second set for 8.
BB rows are getting very strict, add reps next week.
Easy on the hammers, have to hit the rack deads heavy tomorrow.

Zercher squats- 175 lbs 2x8
BB calf raises- 225 lbs 3x12

Rack pulls went up!!
Went back up on zerchers
Did calf raises flat on the floor. One set close, med and then wide.

Good workout.

Weight- 151 lbs.

ME bench day
2 Board press- 185x1, 205x1, 230xfailed, 230xfailed
Lying db ext- 25's 5x8
JM presses- 95x8, 105x6
Front plate raises- 35 lbs 2x12
DB shrugs- 110's 1x12, 1x10(kneeling)
Chest supported rear delt row- 95 lbs 1x10, 1x8

I was dissapointed. I didn't make my ME lift. I brought it down and powered it up off the boards, but couldn't lock it out the last 4-5". I will be working on my lockout strength for the next few weeks to see if I can bring it up.

Everything else pretty much stayed the same. Felt a little better with that weight on db ext. Did some shrugs. Second set was kneeling, I'll do em that way from now on. Takes the legs out.

Chris Rodgers

DE squat day
Box squats- 150 lbs 11x2 followed with a few singles without the box- 225x1, 255x1, 275x1 belt only
High bar squats- 225x1:(

I stopped the workout here. I am very p!ssed at myself. This is the worst workout I have had since I started and it is my fault. All week my diet was poor and the weekend was the worst. I got very little sleep, went out drinking, missed a bunch of meals, etc. I had little energy today and just didn't feel right. I overslept, it was just bad news. My diet will be perfect this week and the other 3 workouts this week will be good.

you should have given it another day if you didn't think you could step up to par man.

at least now you'll know for future reference.

DE bench day
Tri-set- front, side, rear delt raises- 10'sx10,8,6 5'sx10,10,10
Speed benches- 130 lbs close-3x3, med-3x3, wide-2x3, 180x1
Lying db extensions- 25's 5x8
BB rows- 145 lbs 3x6
Curl grip chins(biceps)- bw 2x8

Decided to start off speed days from now on with the tri-set of raises to warm up my shoulders. Started too heavy. 5's next week for both sets.

Speed is good on bench. 180 was a little slower than I wanted, but will improve.

DB extensions are hard as hell and making my elbows feel a lil uncomfortable. I'm gonna switch the exercise to skullcrushers with the ez-curl and keep the same short rest(15 secs between sets.)

Trying to increase volume on lats. Add another set in the next week or 2.

Curl grip chins with a pause at the top, really contracting the biceps. Hurt like fook.

Calories are going to be bumped up a bit in the form of carbs to make up for my lack of energy lately. Low cals is catching up to me.

Sumo deads- 315x1, 335x1, 355x1, 365x1, 375x1<----- ace!!
Close stance BO GM's- 105x6, 135 lbs 3x5
Pull throughs- 120x12
Situps with 5 sec. pause at bottom- 2 sets

AWESOME workout!! I did sumos cause I felt I was weak at them. Little did I know I would crush my previous best even at conventional!! Great feeling.

Goodmornings were done with feet only like 4 inches apart. Felt good.

Weight -152 lbs

Skull crushers(15 secs rest)- 50 lbs 7x8
JM presses- 105 lbs 1x8, 1x6
Triset db laterals(front, side, rear)- 5'sx10,10,10 5'sx12,12,12
DB rows- 100 lbs 2x6
DB shrugs(kneeling)- 110's 1x12, 1x10

Great workout! 215 went up nice on floor presses, shoot for 225 next week.
Skull crushers had great form and speed on all sets. Increase weight next week.
JM presses good again. Add reps next time.

Now to celebrate my two good ME days, I am going to a bar or two tonight. :hump:

DE squat day
Box squats- 150 lbs 11x2
Pull throughs- 100x15
Close grip pulldowns- 130x10

Well, I did it again. I went out and drank and had little sleep this weekend. I also attained a cold, yippee. So basically before this workout started I didn't have high expectations. I just wanted to get my box squats in, which I did and then I just did a few light sets of other stuff. I'm gonna try and eat a bunch and take plenty of vitamins for the next few days.

Tri-set db laterals- 5'sx10,10,10 5'sx10,10,10

Felt a lot better today. Cold should be completely gone by tomorrow or Friday. My strength felt pretty normal, but I took it easy anyway. Stamina seems like it would be the only problem so I made it a quick workout. I'll see how I feel tomorrow to determine if I go all out on a new max.

BB calf raises- 225x 3x15- 1 close, 1 med, 1 wide

That's it!!! I was done after that! Deads took me about 30 mins considering I worked my way up from 95 lbs. I was shocked!! I had a cold all week and it is still lingering, but I fought through it and hit a new PR! 405 is sooo close, but will have to wait. I am going to be performing goodmornings for the next few weeks on ME day.

Deads=ace!! :cool:

Good workout. I was supposed to do Floor presses again but being that I was out til 5:30 ish last night, I slept in and didn't have a spotter. Even with one, I wouldn't have gone heavier on inclines, that was about all I had on this day.

You are a strong mofo!!!!!

Chris Rodgers
11-17-2001, 05:14 PM
Just figured I'd lay down some goals for myself for the next 6-8 weeks of this program:

ABS - ABS,ABS,ABS!!! I'm gonna start doing these with more emphasis. I found myself slacking on them lately. Not anymore! A minimum of 2 exercises will be performed for my midsection at least 2 days per week.

Lats - I will be performing a horizontal and vertical row in 3 workous per week. I will not repeat the same exercise at all during the week. One will be an overhand movement and one underhand. 2-3 sets each.

Shoulders - I'll be using that triset of raises only as one set to warm up for my workout. Later in the session(bench days), I will perform either seated db cleans or rear delt raises for 3-4 sets.

Bench - I'll be working my lockout strength in the upcoming weeks. I will perform 3 and 4 board presses on ME day as well as a week of lockouts. I will max when I feel ready somewhere along the lines of 8 weeks or so.

Squats - These will be maxed within 6-8 weeks or so as well. Not sure where these are now. I will perform some GM's, max box squat, and prolly a zercher max on ME days in the upcoming weeks.

Deads - what can I say. They are the one lift I am not having problems with right now. I will have a one week break from any form of them and then go back to some SLDL's on DE day.

Upper-inner chest - hehe, j/k :p

P.S.- Chickenshow- I plan to make you eat your words about my knowledge on strength training in the upcoming weeks. So STFU and kiss my ass biatch!! :swear:

P.S.S.- there won't be as much of this :alcoholic which should lead to less of this :drooling: and hopefully more gains.

Chris Rodgers
11-17-2001, 05:16 PM
Thanks Maki and I'm assuming you are referring to my deadlift since it is the only really respectable lift?

11-17-2001, 05:18 PM
good luck in the future chris.

Is this gonna help your weight increase also?

Chris Rodgers
11-17-2001, 05:23 PM
Bodyweight? How will it do that unless I eat more?

I've been battling the decision to remain at this weight and see how long I can increase strength for. It's tough. I was considering training at about the same weight for another year and then bulking up to like 175-180 over the following 2 years or so. The possibilities are endless when you plan to be in this game forever.

11-17-2001, 05:26 PM
i know you're well into the strength side, but do you not want your body looking better?

Chris Rodgers
11-17-2001, 05:28 PM

The way I look at it now is that I am all about getting stronger. If eating a good diet and traing hard is going to make me look better, which it is, than that is an added bonus. Trust me, if I'm around the same weight that I am now in 6 months to a year, I'll look a ton better.

PS- I do realize I am tiny, so if that is what you're hinting at don't worry about it. My plan for now is to be a strong lil bastard!

11-18-2001, 12:01 PM
Sounds good to me. I'll make a new journal to show my progress to.

Do you plan on competing? otherwise I don't really see a point in maintaining such a low weight while trying to increase strength.

11-18-2001, 01:08 PM

Chicken- that is exactly why I am staying low. If I feel my lifts can be competitive sometime in the next year, than I may do some sort of meet. At least I would like to do a dead meet at 148 or so.

11-18-2001, 05:45 PM
dont worry too much about being competitive in your first meet man, just go for the experience. i think your lifts are plenty good now for a start. you'll have fun and make some contacts and have meet experience (lifting at a meet can be pretty different to at home or gym!). just my thoughts anyway

DE squat day
Box squats- 165 lbs 9x2, 185x1, 205x1
Pull throughs- 130x13(lost footing)
Wide grip Chins- bwx8
"Iron-Cross" Chins- bwx7
Leg raises- 1 set

Workout was very short. I was low on energy and started late. This is the 3rd week in a row I've started off feeling like crap, but always by Wed/Thurs I'm pumped and have good workouts. I think my weekend behaviors need to be kept in check. No more staying out til 5 or 6 anymore. tuttut (yeah, that might happen). I will try and get more rest and better nutrition this weekend.

BB row- 145x6, 155 lbs 2x6

Good session today. 185 went up nice on bench. Everything else went really well too.

Close stance BO GM's- 185x1, 205x1, 225x1, 235xfailed
SLDL- 275x5, 315x5
Pull throughs- 130 lbs 2x12
Standing abs- 3 sets
Cable side bends- 2 sets

That is the heaviest goodmorning that I've done to parallel. It was also with the closest stance I've tried so far, so I was happy. I'll go for 235 next week.

Wasn't gonna do sldl this week, but Power said why don't you just do some 8's. Since I'm a biatch and hate doin any kind of reps, I did a couple of 5's.

ME bench day
Floor presses- 185x1, 205x1, 225xfail, 225xfail, 135x3, 220x1
Dips- bwx8, +45x6, +70x6, +90x5
JM presses- 115 lbs 2x6
Standing DB press- 50'sx6, 50'sx5

After that tried a few sets of cleans, but I'm not sure if I like those. May try them again sometime.

Floor presses pissed me off. First shot at 225 I almost hit it. 2nd try I didn't have it in the right groove so totally missed. Got pissed, went down to 135 and threw up a fast triple. Put 220 on the bar, still 5 more lbs than my PB and hit it, even with a long pause at the bottom. Then missed @225 again. I'll get that 225+ the next time I do floors.

Low back was really shot from ME squats so I didn't do any rows.

DE squat day
Box squats-165 lbs 9x2, 185x1, 205x1, 225x1
Extra-wide sumo deads- 225x1, 275x1, 315 lbs 2x1
BB calf raises- 245 lbs 3x15, 1 close, 1 med, 1 wide
Leg raises- 2 sets
Decline situps with 4-5 sec. pause at bottom- 2 sets

Great workout. Surprised myself on the sumo deads. They were really wide. Each foot was 4 or so inches wider than normal. I was almost doin a split :p

I'm maxing my box squat next week on ME day. Aiming for 245-265.

Everything else good. Hit the abs hard and decided I'll stick with 2 lat exercises only on bench days so I don't overdo themn and give my shoulders more rest.

Speed benches- 130 lbs close-3x3, med-3x3, wide-2x3, 160x1, 190x1
Skull crushers- 60 lbs 5x8 (15 sec rest)
Front plate raise- 35 lbs 2x12
BB rows(overhand)- 155 lbs 2x6
Curl grip chins- bwx5, +25x5, +35x6

Good workout especially considering I was low on energy. My heads been in the clouds the past few days and I've been forgetting to eat and sleep sometimes(the chick is awesome :D ).

I was a little spent near the end and it was probably because I woke up late today and onlt ate once before my workout.

So, just get diet back in order and I'll be alright.

Zercher squats- 185x6, 205x3, 225x3
Pull throughs- 90x20
Leg raises- 2 sets
Decline sit-ups w/pause- 2 sets

Ace workout. Went up 20 lbs on Gm's. Zerchers kicked my ass!!! That was by far the heaviest I tried and they felt real good. I went nice and deep and my hams are fried!

After that just did one failry easy set of pull throughs followed by some hard ab work.

I think last week I may have b*tched out on the 235 set. I may have not maintained my tightness or something, cause this week I nailed that and the 245. Weird.

Zerchers kick ass and so does Latty's new woman. :p

JM presses- 115x 8,6
Wide-grip chins- bwx6, +25x3, +45x6
Seated b/o laterals- 10 lb platesx15, 10+5 lb platesx12
Barbell curls- 85x6

Another good day! Hit my previous best flat bench max with a close grip and even gave 215 a short ride. Also, I did this lift at @10 lbs less than my previous flat bench max.

Inc db's feel a little weaker than they once were and my chest was screaming. I'll be back up to the 80's on these in a few weeks.

Jm's felt great! Chins felt great!

Tried some curls for the hell of it.

Hey Latman, I would like to interject here if I may. I have noticed that your lifting has been going pretty well, you are getting stronger. I have also noticed that you are not really gaining any weight. I am curious if you really don't want to gain size. It is obviously ok if that is your wish, as it is your body and life, but I have never known a young man who trains only for strength, and has no desire to put on bodyweight. So, would you like to be gaining weight, or are you satisfied with the way things are going? Please understand that I am not asking this in any negative fashion, I am just curious.

12-01-2001, 07:16 PM
I think I asked him about that on the second page.

Sorry, I'll go check the answer.

Chris Rodgers
12-02-2001, 03:48 PM
I don't take that negatively Chris. I was thinking of doing a meet in the 148 class, most likely a dead meet. I'm not 100% positive if I will do a meet at that weight, but at the moment I see no reason to add excess bodyweight if I feel it will not benefit me. In other words if I can gain x-amount of strength while maintaining/ slightly lowering my weight and only gain slightly more strength by forcing myself to eat more and most likely gain fat, I'd rather stay at this weight.

Basically, I've decided that by the end of my first try at Westside which will run approx 16 weeks, I want to see what my maxes are at @ 148-152 lbs. I will then most likely go on a bulking program to switch things up. Bottom line is I have been gaining strength at a very good rate for me and I look a lot leaner, so I think I'm doin something right.

BB calf raises- 245 lbs 3x15, 1 close, 1 med, 1 wide
Decline situps w/pause- 2 sets
Cable side bends- 2 sets

That's all for now. I'm gonna do calves and abs after work and I'll edit this. **edited**

Why the fook do I feel so weak on squats? I hate that.

Who does heavy triples of sldl you ask? I do, so stfu. I hate high reps of any sort cause I'm a biatch. I guess if I go into a more hypertrophy oriented program after this I'm in for a shock.

I'll get a triple of 365 in a few weeks just for the hell of it. Not bad for a featherweight.

Paul Stagg

That is a HUGE SLDL!

Well done.

If you are doing DE work, were you testing your limit strength? You might feel a little weak... but that doesn't mean you necessarily are.

Chris Rodgers
12-04-2001, 11:46 AM
Not positive what you meant by limit strength. If you meant max, then no. I just wanted to get a feel for the heavier weight on my back since I know I'll be maxing my squat in like 5 weeks or so. It's weird, the deads keep feeling lighter and lighter and the squats still feel like I have a truck on my back. We'll see.

Paul Stagg
12-04-2001, 12:08 PM
That's what I meant.

Lighter work can feel heavy for lots of reasons... it doesn't mean your strength gains are slowing. Don't worry about it.

If you want to get used to the weight on your back, I'd suggest doing heavy walkouts or partials to get used to the load without compromising the rest of your training.

Chris Rodgers
12-05-2001, 01:52 PM
Thanks Paul, I may try some partials or walkouts in the next couple of weeks. Also gonna add some Arched back goodmornings, since I can handle a good load on those.

DE bench day
Speed benches- 130 lbs close-3x3, med-3x3, wide-2x3, 165x1, 195x1, 205x1
Inc. elbows out ext.- 25'sx10, 30'sx10, 35'sx4
BB rows- 135 lbs 2x10
Curl-grip chins- bwx5, +25x3, +45x4

Ok, I have been talkin to this assface named beercan and I found out he actually works out!! Anyway, we are gonna start training together at a local gym in January, so I am finishing this cycle of Westside after the 14th week. This means my max squat and bench attempts will be coming shortly.

I went up to my previous max on bench and hit it pretty smoothly despite the fact that my liftoff was bad. No spot and when I took it off my right foot slid out and I had to hold it at lockout for like 3-4 secs to plant my foot.

The extensions were good, 35's were heavier than I thought. Stick to 30's next time.

BB rows- I stayed light cause my low back was still pretty tight.

Chins- just wanted to see what I could do with a 45 in comparison to my stronger grip(overhand).

So yeah, after the 14th week I'm going to join forces with 'can and try and put on some size. I'm actually going to be working my muscles instead of just trying to move big weights. Should be interesting.

ME squat day
Box squats- 225x1, 245x1, 260x1, 275x1
Arched Back GM's- 275x5, 295x4
Hanging leg raises- 2 sets

I was pretty shot after those. Very happy with the box squat max. I had a nice pause at the bottom, no bounce.

Arched backs felt good too. Didn't expect to go that high. I want to get my body prepared for a 3 plate or so squat, so I want to feel that weight on my back.

Chris Rodgers
12-08-2001, 04:34 PM

ME bench day
Rack lockouts(4") (close-grip)- 245x1, 265x1, 285x1, 305x1, 315xfail, then did my bench grip(2.5")- 315x1, 335x1, then did my bench grip again(5.5")- 275x1, 295x1, 305xfailed
Flat DB press- 70'sx3, 90'sx3
JM presses- 95 lbs 2x12
Wide grip chins- bwx4, +25x2, +45x1, +70x .5, .25
Hammer curls- 35'sx10

Ok, I was very pleased to say the least with my lockout strength. I've never gone near those numbers when attempting the movement in the past. What sucked is that I got so wrapped up in them that I spent 35 minutes doing them.

After those I wanted to see if I could do the 90's on db presses cause I don't think I ver tried them.

Went a little lighter with higher reps on JM's.

Just wanted to see if I could do a chin with 70 lbs, but found out it was just too much on this day.

Finished with some hammers.

All in all an ace workout. I'm going yo use the lockouts again next week.

Arched Back GM's- 275x3, 305x3, 315x3
Squats- 135x3, 185x1, 225x1 followed by a walkout with 325, then squat- 285x1
Zerchers squats- 185x4, 225x4

By the time I got to Zerchers I was done!

Arched backs- that's 10 lbs more than my previous 1RM on them and I did it for a triple.

I decided to do squats. Just wanted to see how they felt. Mind you, I was a little sore from Monday and I had just done heavy GM's and I still squatted the most I have ever without wraps. I have decided to do my squat max next week with wraps.

Zerchers- added a rep. I wanted to do more sets, but I was soo shot by then.

So here is what the last 3 weeks of ME squat will look like:

week 12- Max squat
week 13- Rack pulls
week 14- Max sumo
week 15- stop Westside, start Beerside ;)

My Max bench will come in those remaining 3 weeks also.

Flat bench press- 135x2, 185x1, 210x1, 215x1
JM presses- 95x12, 115 lbs x8,6
Wide grip chins- bwx16
Hammer curls- 35'sx10, 40'sx3

Ok. I wanted to experiment with flat benches after the lockouts. My reasoning was that the heavy weight I was using on lockouts would make the lighter weight on benches "feel" lighter than it really is. You be the judge. I increased the weight on all the different grips and distances on all the rack lockouts and still hit my 2 heaviest benches ever afterwards. The 210 I brought down to above my nipples and still hit it. The 215 I brought down low like I want it and hit that without stalling. I was pretty damn happy to say the least. I know I'll get 2 plates when I max in a few weeks.

I was about done after that so I started to lose it on my 3rd set of JM's.

Then I just wanted to see what I could do with bw only on chins. I think I can manage 20 if I did them fresh.

That last set of hammer curls was so pointless. My arms cramped up so much I could barely move them.

Squats- 135x3, 185x1, with wraps- 225x1, 275x1

Fairly easy workout. Wanted to leave some in the tank for my max on Thurs. I put the wraps on just to get used to the feel of them, since I'll be maxing with them on.

12-17-2001, 08:02 PM

DE bench day
Speed benches- 135 lbs close-3x3, med-3x3, wide-2x3

After those I messed around with OH presses, seated and realized I really dislike that exercise. They are uncomfortable on my shoulders. I think I only like it with dumbells.

Anyway, today was a joke. I was gonna skip it completely cause I really wasn't up for it, but I wanted to at least do my speed benches and those were fine. I'll be ready for tomorrow's session.

12-20-2001, 06:43 AM
I thought you said you usually have another wigger in a wifebeater do bentover rows at the same time you're benching, lifting half of the weight for you.

You grunt, then brag about how much you can bench. (And how loud the beats in your whip are, son.)

Latty do smith machine oh presses bother your shoulders?

Chris Rodgers
12-20-2001, 10:42 AM
Haha, that's only at the Monday night bench/curl bashes from 6:00-9:00. ;)

Haven't tried them on the smith in ages. I may like the standing presses better, but can't do those in the basement with the barbell, only dumbells.

ME squat day
Squats- 255x1, 285x1, 315xfailed, 345xwalkout, 315x1

That was it. The first attempt at 315, I drifted forward and fell onto the pins. Rested a bit, did a heavy walkout and then rested again. Put 315 back on and got it. I started to drfit forward again, then I had to do a bit of an arched back goodmorning to get myself straight again. So, I'm happy I got to the 3 plate-level, but I still don't know why I suck at squatting.

Next 2 weeks- 225 bench and 405 dead!

Ok, on Christmas Eve I skipped my DE squat day cause I was running around and really didn't feel up to it. Today was my birthday and dammit, I wanted to deadlift. So I did some sumo deads. They looked like this:

135x4, 185x3, 225x1, 275x1, 315x1, 365x1, 405x.75(grrr), 405x1!, 225x23!

I am a happy birthday boy. That was my gift to myself. The first try at 405 I couldn't finish it, but I knew I had it in me, so I rested like 3 minutes and hit it on the second try. Then for kicks I just repped out with 225 and got 23 reps before I felt like I was gonna puke, so it ended there.

So, Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday to me!

405 lbs@150 lbs :D

Kick ass.

Awesome job.

The question isn't 'will we see a 3x bw deadlift in 2002?', it is Which month will we see it?

Thanks fellas. Since I'll be gaining weight, I may have to up that dead poundage a bit farther to do a 3xbw. We shall see.

haha, buncha freaks!

Me squat day
Rack pulls(9")- 365x1, 405x1, 435x1, 465xfailed
Zercher squats- 185x4, 225x7
Pull throughs- 2 light sets
Standing abs- 2 light sets

By the time I got to 405 on rack pulls my body, mainly lower back, was asking me wtf I was doing, especially since I just did heavy deads on Tuesday. I kept going anyway cause I am stubborn. Oh well, I'll be nice and sore tomorrow.

Hit a new high on zerchers, felt real good.

If I don't feel so good on Monday, I'll skip DE squat for next week and just shoot for another max dead on Thursday or Friday. If I'm up for it come Monday, I'll just do real light work. Maybe box squatting or speed deads. Almost done with this phase of Westsiiiiiiddee.

ME bench day
2 board press- 185x1, 205x1, 225x1, 235xfailed
Flat bench- 220xfailed, 135x15
Seated rows(wide)- 140x6, 160x6, (close) 170x6
Seated OH DB ext- 50x8, 60x8, 70x5

I was a bit dissapointed on the 2 boards, but 225 went up real smooth and with good speed. I had my dad come down to help my sis spot me on the 235 and he kinda grabbed it after the first sign of strain. I don't think I had it anyway.

I thought I would hit the 220 without too much problem, btu I was wrong. Prolly should not have even tried.

Oh well, next week we shall see if I can press two plates when fresh.

Why not try it wednesday, so we can train chest that day....so then we'd still be on schedule for the following week....

Depends on how I feel. Even if I max late in the week, I'll be able to do push the following Wednesday. Although the max is taxing on the nervous system, it won't make me too sore that I won't recover. We'll see.

I wasn't going to train, but one of my buddies came to my house and asked if I would go to the gym with him. He's into powerlifting/strongman stuff and he wanted to give himself a little 'meet' to finish up the year. So he asked if I wanted to test all my maxes to, but I definitely wasn't up for that. So I told him I'd go to help spot him and maybe do some light deads.

This is how it goes:

This guy is 21, about 5'10" and 225ish. He starts with squats. The bar, 135, 225, 315, 405, 455, 550, 600, then misses 620 where we have to move forward onto the squat rack and I didn't notice my pinky got pinched between the bar and the rack and I was bleeding all over, lol. The fugger just squatted 600 freakin pounds to parallel!! It was definitely a site to see.

Then he moved to bench. He was p!ssed off at his bench. Moved up to 365 and smoked it, but then couldn't lock out 400 twice. Still, I was very impressed!

Then we go to deads. We start going back and forth through the warmups. I figured I'd go up to like 275, maybe 315 and save the rest for later in the week. No, I didn't. I was getting a huge adrenaline rush from watching him move these big weights so I just kept going. So even though I wasn't feeling up for a workout earlier and I didn't feel my strongest, I deadlifted on pure adrenaline. We work up to his first "attempt". He rips 530 off the floor like cake. I was like woah! Figured I'd go for 4 plates, since I hadn't done an official 4 plate dead, since I had to use 35's and a 10 on my bar. ;) So I pulled 405 better than I did on Christmas day. He was very impressed, was there yelling at me and getting me psyched. It was ace. Then he gives 560 a ride and gets it above his knees, but no lockout. I go for 425 and get it to just below my knees, but couldn't shift my hips forward enough to get under it and drive to the finish, so no go. He goes for 560 again and can't do it.

So there ya have it. Wasn't even gonna train, but my buddy needed a spot and that was that. So he totaled 1495 with just a belt and he was good for another 20 lbs easy on bench and prolly another 15-20 on deadlift. So his raw total is over 1500. I was impressed and inspired.

Then I went out last night and got hammered and had a great time. Happy New Year! :alcoholic

he can squat more than he can dead?!

Chris Rodgers
01-01-2002, 04:20 PM
Yes. But one has to wonder how much gets taken out of you after doing those other heavy lifts before the deads.

Chris Rodgers
01-02-2002, 09:45 AM

As I stated I trained with BC today. I was a weak biatch and my arms are shaking now so I know I won't be maxing my bench this week, oh well.

We did flat bench, I did like 185 for 4-5 wussy reps, weighted dips, pec deck, hammer strength wide chest, standing presses, skulls and pressdowns. We more or less just messed around today getting to know each other and the way we lift. Figure out what exercises we will be doing. After the first of each type of session(pull, push, legs) we should be ready to get down to business. So I'll either just continue to post in this journal or I may start a different one since this routine will be a lot different than my last. We'll see.

We're gonna do legs thgis Friday, starting with deads. :D

Chris Rodgers

We did legs today. Started with sumo deads, worked up to 365, then took a shot at 410, but couldn't get it over the knees. Not too bad considering I was on 4 hours of sleep after a serious cardio session til 4:00 A.M. last night ;) . After that we did leg extensions followed by leg press. Let me just say ouch! We weren't even going to failure and I'm still gonna be hurtin for days. Also did some calf raises after sets of leg press, right on the sled and I really like those. Lemme just say that Beercan's calves are the fookin craziest I've ever seen!! He's fookin calfzilla!! I think he should post a pic of em.

Anyway, I'm gonna make one more post charting my progress from Westside, then I'll start a new Journal for Beerside.

After 13 weeks of Westside:

Squat- 315 lbs
Bench- 215 lbs
Deadlift- 405 lbs
Total- 935 lbs

These were all at approx 150-152 lbs

So I raised my total 105 lbs, thanks mostly to my deadlift. I never really did a true bench max, the 215 actually came after heavy lockouts. I feel I would be good for 220-230 if I peaked the bench near the ned, but that is my fault.

The squat I was a little dissapointed in, but since I focused mostly on pulling, I'm still satisfied with the 20 lb jump.

Deads, what can I say. I am more than happy how they have gone. I feel now on a good day I'd be good for 415 or better. I'll see soon because I'm still going to be doing heavy deads regularly.

So there ya have it. My first experience with a modified version of Westside and I gained over a 100 lbs on my total. I'm happy. Now it's time to gain some mass. :D
