Good work man, meet PRs are always good news! I think your analysis is very good and I agree with most of it, especially spending the early stages of a cycle building up a base in the squat, and pausing all of your presses in the gym. Well done!

Good job at the meet! And good analysis.

I think you may still use the conjugate system, just not a strictly WSB-style conjugate.
I was thinking about going this route myself, after the upcoming meet.

    Back to the grind...

Come down with some serious Illness tuesday, lasted about 24 hours, how I didnt end up in hospital is beyond me. Needless to say I've lost over 8lbs, fucking sucks haha

    Bench
    bar x lots x wide/narrow/close
    bar x 5
    135 x 5
    175 x 5
    210 x 5
    235 x 5
    265 x 6

    paused first and last rep

    Military Press (Strict)
    bar x 20
    120 x 5
    145 x 5
    160 x 8

    CG incline
    135 x 10
    155 x 10
    155 x 10

    a) WG Lat Pulldowns - 3 sets of 10
    b) DB rows - 3 sets of 15

    Seated rear delt raises
    3 sets of 25

first one back is always rough, beat the reps on bench and moved on, felt like ass today, probably the weight loss/not being 100% still and obviously the meet sunday benching a meet PR. I bet I bench more next week for more reps, always seems the way with me and 5/3/1, awful on the 5 weeks for some reason. I survived to bench another day though and OHP felt strangely very strong so overall not a bad first one back.

    Supposedly lower day!

Went in today feeling okay, tad bloated,( the bad bloated) yes I know you powerlifters out there will be thinking what!? There is a bad kind of bloat!? As it turns out there is! An intestinal bloat! I shal say no more!

Went upto 315x5, my first working set, and had already dashed to the toilet 4 times. My plan originally was to stay belt less untill final set, then I was going to put it on for sphincter safety on my second set, and then I decided you know what... Gonna have to bail, so there's my funny story for you all. Hopefully my misfortune brightens up your day as you read this. Turns out my illness from early on in the week must be still lingering around. Pissed off but could be a blessing. Hopefully I'm better for Mondays squats ( second wave)... Untill then I'm out to stay hydrated and rub my poor power belly better.

thanks hayden it was brutal haha, im all good now though!

as for that squat I still think If I cut it I would of got it, I always lose my positioning at the bottom of the squat like that, and it bent me in half! From now on when I go to meets im going to come up with the squat regardless of how I personally feel my depth is, and let the judges do their jobs, rather than me getting smashed like that if that makes sense. You complete the lift its one white light, If another judge thinks yeah thats good, theres two and a passed lift. Think it will be my new strategy on squats now or get somebody to call my depth, but even then peoples perceptions of depth are always different. I tried to consciously sink that because as I said it would have been a national record.

Smolov base, week 1 day 2

    Squats
    bar x 10
    135 x 10
    225 x 5
    315 x 1

    5 x 7 @ 345

thats all she wrote! Its hard to replicate the same form for these sorts of reps. really not used to it. Elbows/forearms are already tightening up like a mother too. Best dig some elbow sleeves out and start jamming my thumbs in there

Smolov base cycle, week 1 - day 3

    Squat -7x5 @ 365

Yep... thats it. I say thats it but I feel like my sets are getting worse haha, wrists are absolutely shot to peices from grasping the bar. 15 hours 'till im back under it squatting again to conclude week 1... next week I have to find an extra 10kg from somewhere, blasted through them quite quick tonight. Very curios to see how I feel tommorow, need to dig out my elbow sleeves and start using caffiene, I've held off untill now and trying for as long as possible but I expect tonight my sleep wont be brilliant and I have to squat early because im working after.

you know what they say... when you're going through hell. Keep going! 9 sessions left.
