    Trap Bars - $85 Shipped

Found this deal on Amazon, I actually purchased one of the 'mega' bars over the weekend ($40 more but you get a longer sleeve and two different handles for variation with the height of the pull).

Looks like based on the reviews these are re-finished bars and are spray painted rather than coated - but for home gym use it is a good value.

If you use standard plates it should hold (9) on each side I believe, which would give you 890 lbs with the 80 lbs bar (and if you used 100 lbs plates you could fit more weight). Even with thicker plates you should be able to fit 700+ without too much difficulty.

The sleeves are definitely longer than the normal trap bars that you can only fit (5) plates on.

    Tom,
Is the one you bought with longer sleeves rack-able by any chance?

It will actually fit in the rack that I have (Body Solid), but putting it in the rack would limit the amount of weight that you can fit on the bar. The only 'full length' bar that I know of that fits in a rack is the Sorinex Trap Bar; I have used one and did not like it as much as a standard trap bar (plus you are looking at probably 3X+ the cost of this one).

Used the new Trap Bar yesterday and worked up to 650 lbs without any issues (and more room on the bar), so I am happy with the purchase.

What is the advantage/difference of a trap bar DL versus conventional?

With the Trap Bar the weight is at your sides which is a more natural position (centered over your body rather than out in front of your body). Because of this there is less strain on your lower back, and you also engage your legs a bit more than you might on a conventional deadlift.

I would say that it is safer than squatting or deadlifting in terms of being a movement that is easy to perform with good technique and that does not put your body in an awkward position.

It should be 'free super saver shipping' - although that may have just been a promotion.

Oh nice....would that still be a good way to train on a consistent basis? I guess what I'm asking, is how does it translate to conventional?
