Any significant difference between these two for growth? cutting?

I have an extremely lean friend who swears that he eats rice but no pasta. I thought both were relatively complex carbohydrates.

Whole wheat pasta digests slower than brown rice (lower gi) so it's better.

I could at least eat brown rice alone, but pasta without sauce? That would take some getting used to. Plus, you'd probably feel ripped off quantity wise if you had 1 cup of pasta vs. 1 cup of brown rice imho...

1 cup of rice and 1 cup of pasta are not the same, calorie wise.

Just double check your statement, that whole wheat pasta digests slower than brown rice.

First of all, brown rice has more fiber than pasta, so it will of course be more healhty and in a cutting diet, it will help to provide bulk with less carb calories than pasta.

pasta is PROCESSES food. How do you think they get those little alaphabet shapes? Yep, it was processed...

SO, Best choice for a cutting diet: brown rice

Bulkig phase: either, because the pasta calories can add up quickly...

Whole wheat pasta has more fibre than brown rice as whole whaet pasta has about 8 grams of fibre per 100 grams while brown rice has about 3 grams of fibre per 100 grams. both are for raw, not boiled.
Rice is a processed food as well as it not dehydrated when it grows.
tinned pasta in tomato sauce may be lower in fibre but thats normally as they use white pasta and their is load of water added to make the product go further thus lowering the fibre content.
as for never seeing pros eat pasta i have never seen a pro with his gear in the mags. so does that mean they do not do it. At the end of the day there is not to much deifference between the two products to worry about. as both are low in salt and have various other minerals present in them.
